12 Squadron (Leads The Field). Lancaster aircraft NN 712 was shot down by an enemy night fighter aircraft on the return trip from a night operation over Zeitz, Germany. The aircraft caught fire and exploded before crashing three and one halh miles north of Budingen, Germany, near Dudenrod, Germany. Pilot Officer L.W. Ferguson and four RAF members of the crew were also killed.
