License and Usage

History belongs to everyone, and CASPIR exists to put it in front of as many people as possible. CASPIR also stands on the shoulders of those who came before us: Bill Walker's aircraft database, the research of John Griffin and Hugh Halliday, the Bomber Command Museum of Canada Archives, and many others. Their names and work are credited on Mission & Data Sources and Canada Air Military Historians. Please read those pages as part of this one.

What CASPIR shares

Everything that CASPIR itself has added to that foundation: the work of bringing the records together, the corrections and cross-checks against original documents, and the descriptions written by CASPIR volunteers. This is shared under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 licence (CC BY-NC 4.0).

  • You may share and adapt it for study, teaching, family history, research and other non-commercial use.
  • You must give credit, for example: Source: CASPIR, Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, https://caspir.warplane.com, and say if you changed anything.
  • You may not sell it or use it for commercial purposes without asking us first.

What belongs to others

The databases, books and web sites that CASPIR draws on remain the property of their authors and owners. The licence above does not give you rights over their original work. If you want to reuse what comes from a particular source, please look at that source and follow its terms.

Photographs and documents

Most photographs and documents come from Royal Canadian Air Force files. These are Crown copyright, Government of Canada, and are reproduced here for non-commercial use with credit, as the Government of Canada allows. Other pictures are credited where the owner is known. We claim no copyright in them. If you want to use a picture beyond non-commercial study, please ask the owner named in its credit, or contact us.

Maps

The maps use OpenStreetMap tiles, © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database Licence. The map pictures are not part of CASPIR's records.

Corrections and questions

CASPIR is a working research record and it contains errors. If you can correct a record, or if you think something here is yours and is not credited properly, please tell us through the Contact page and we will look at it promptly.
