Target-bound in Halifax DT511 it suffered engine trouble so crew turned and made for home. Nearing base the same engine caught fire and the bale-out order was given - five jumped and landed safely, The pilot and Flt engineer stayed with the aircraft to crash-land it but while making the attempt it crashed near Yarm, killing both men.
