Wellington III aircraft X 3606 WS-M was hit by heavy flak (schwere) Flak of the 4/schwere Flak-Abteilung 262 while homeward-bound from an operation against targets in Bremen, Germany. The Wellington crashed into the Burgerpark, in the Walle District of Bremen, Germany with the loss of four crew members

Pilot Officer Gerard McKee Beech (RCAF), Squadron Leader Harry Ledger (RAF), Pilot Officer John Eric Coleman (RAFVR), and Flight Sergeant Jack Robert Ludkin (RAF) were killed in action

Flight Sergeant David Alan Hunter (RAFVR) was the lone survivor from his crew and was taken as Prisoner of War
