Aircraft was shot down by a night fighter and crashed at Malvoisin. Belgium. Three members of the crew successfully evaded and three were made POW.
Birk was one of the crewmen that evaded. He did so with the assistance of the 'Comet Line', a Resistance network that helped allied airmen escape to neutral Spain. He arrived back in Scotland 1942-03-10.
