Aircraft was shot down by a night fighter and crashed at Malvoisin. Belgium. Three members of the crew successfully evaded and three were made POW. Dyer was one of the evaders, and like Sergeant Dicks, made his way without the assistance of any escape organization. He was injured in baling out of the aircraft but despite this made his way from Belgium into France where he was arrested. He escaped from his captors and continued into Spain from where he was re-patriated. His Military medal citation of 1942-05-26 notes that he suffered 'severe privations' in making this journey.
