Sutherland, Ernest Bruce (Flight Sergeant)

Took off from Mildenhall at 17:45 in Lancaster Mk III (Sqn code: GI-G Bomber Command).

Attacked by a night-fighter while heading SW out of the target area at 20000 feet.. The aircraft was shot down and the crew abandoned it.

The two Canadians in the crew survived and were made POW: Flying Officer Godfrey Gale Sproule RCAF POW Stalag Luft L3 Sagan & Belaria Flight Sergeant Ernest Bruce Sutherland RCAF POW Stalag Luft L6 Heydekrug.

The .five Brits in the crew were killed in the jump and were all buried in the Berlin 1939-1945 War Cemetery; Sergeant Frank George Aldred RAF KIA Berlin 1939-1945 War Cem. 2. A. 7.
