53 Squadron. Liberator aircraft BZ 817 took off on an anti-sub patrol and the pilot attempted to turn back. Warrant Officer Young, Flying Officer D.B. Sinclair, FS A. Pudifin, and five of the crew who were not Canadians were all killed when the aircraft crashed two miles east of RAF Station, Beaulieu, England.
Addendum: Five RAF members of the crew, F/0.s D.R. Cooper, L.H. Lister, FS. E.F. Barge, Sgt.s F. Quinn, and R.J. Clarke were also killed.
