Bolingbroke aircraft 10195 was returning from a gunnery exercise when the pilot overshot the runway, the throttles were opened up but one engine did not catch. The aircraft crashed and burned one half mile south of the aerodrome at Dafoe. FS Wilson had been slightly injured on January 26, 1943 when a 10 SFTS Cessna Crane aircraft made a forced landing in a snow storm at Virden, Manitoba.

5 BGS (5 Bomb and Gunnery School)
The Bombing and Gunnery School (B&GS) offered instruction in the techniques of bomb aiming and aerial machine gunnery to Air Observers, Bomb Aimers, and Wireless Air Gunners. These schools required large areas to accommodate their bombing and gunnery ranges, and were often located near water. The Avro Anson, Fairey Battle, Bristol Bolingbroke, and Westland Lysander were the standard aircraft used at B&GS schools.
