78 Squadron (Nemo Non Paratus). Halifax aircraft LV 899 was shot down by a German night fighter aircraft at Maubert-Fontaine during a night raid against Nuremberg, Germany. Pilot Officer F.W. Topping, FS G.D. Torbet, Flying Officer W.L. Cruse, Sergeants W.J. Batchouski (RAF), L. Lanaghan (RAF), and W.A. Littlewood (RAF) were also killed. This was FS Vaughan's third operation and his was one of 108 Allied aircraft shot down this night.
