207 Squadron (Semper Paratus). Lancaster aircraft ND 568 was shot down by a German ME-110 aircraft flown by Hauptmann Tham during a night attack against Nuremberg, Germany. Pilot Officer G.R. Thorpe was also killed. Five of the crew, not Canadians, missing believed killed. This was Pilot Officer Thornton's eleventh operation and his was one of 108 Allied that were lost this night. Addendum: Five RAF member of the crew, Sgt.s C. Davis, A. Latham, J. Dyson, N. Cotrell, and FS. R. Thompson were also killed.
