451 Squadron (Swift And Sure). Halifax aircraft HR 733 was shot down twenty-five miles northwest of Essen at Heiden, Germany. Warrant Officer W.R. Hewitt was also killed. Five members of the crew, not Canadians, missing believed killed.
Addendum: Sgt.s H.A. Briggs (RAF), C.H. Longley (RAF), and D.R. Wilson (RAF) were also killed.
