With No. 444 (F) Squadron at Baden-Soellingen, Germany in early 1958. Two RCAF jet fighters from 444 Squadron collided and crashed. The Pilot of Sabre 23488, Flying Officer Eugene P. Doral, ejected was seriously injured and died.. RCAF W/C R.V. Smith was killed.
