97 Squadron (Achieve Your Aim), Pathfinder Force. Lancaster aircraft R 5607 was shot down eighteen miles north of Essen, Germany at Wuffen, Germany during night operations. Warrant Officer D.C. Plaunt and FS J.A. Viau were also killed. Four of the crew, not Canadians, missing believed killed.
