77 Squadron (Esse Potius Quam Videri). Halifax aircraft LW 290 went down 33 miles south by south-west of the target during night operations against Berlin, Germany. FS W.E. Ackland was also killed, five of the crew, not Canadians, missing believed killed.
Addendum: The squadron was based at Elvington when aircraft No. LW 290-U went missing. The RAF members of this crew who were also killed were Sgt.s W. Eaton, J. Robertson, L.L. Green, and W. Allen.
