582 Squadron (Pre Volamus Designantes), Pathfinder Force. Lancaster aircraft NE 169 failed to return from a night operation against Wizernes, France. Flying Officer J.W. Stapelton, and Pilot Officer D.H. Manson were also killed. Four of the crew, not Canadians, missing believed killed. Addendum: Lancaster aircraft NE 169 failed to return from a night attack against a flying bomb site near Wizemes, France. P/O. J.W. Stapelton, P/O. D.H. Manson and four RAF members of the crew Sgt.s J. Greeves, D. Eggleston, WO. E.G. Smith DFM, and FS. A Fretwell were also killed.
