158 Squadron (Strength In Unity). On1944-08-17 the crew of Halifax LK839 were returning at night when they crashed at Foston-on-The WoIds, Besford, Yorkshire. P/Os F.W. Crawley, J.J. Grant, E.G. Beard, K.T. Bielby, and two RAF members of the crew were also killed. The crew had been contacted on r/t and normal landing instructions were given immediately prior to the crash. Flying Officer Rosen died of his injuries the next day in the Driffield Emergency Hospital.
