160 Squadron (Api Soya Paragasamu). Liberator aircraft BZ 868 was returning from a 22 hour flight laying mines off Burma when all four engines failed. The aircraft crash landed in heavy seas. Squadron Leader D.G. Joy and one of the crew, not Canadian, were also killed. Two Canadians, F/Os R.L. Freeman, C.M. Fisher, and three crew members, not Canadians, were taken Prisoners of War. Addendum: P/O. P.R. Ascott (RAAF) was also killed.
