408 Goose Squadron (For Freedom). Halifax aircraft HR654 was shot down at Friedenshugel, Flensburg, Germany during a night trip to Berlin, Germany.

Sergeants H. Davenport, J.F. Barnes, and three RAF members of the crew, F.J. Cherry, G. Jennings, and R.S.V. Lewis-Staniford (served as R.S.V. Lewis) were also killed. One Canadian, Pilot Officer J.S. Acheson, was taken Prisoner of War.
