138 Squadron (For Freedom). Halifax V aircraft LL 279 NF-R missing from secret night operation JOHN 23, dropping supplies and agents. F/O(s) W.C. Kingsley, J.E. Wright, Pilot Officer J.R. Dutton, and Flight Sergeant K.F.H. Hart (RAF) were also killed. One Canadian, Sergeant E.F. Gillcash, was taken Prisoner of War and one of the crew, not Canadian, missing believed killed.
