76 Squadron (Resolute). The crew of Halifax aircraft MZ 516 were returning from operations over Mainz, Germany when the starboard outer engine caught fire. The aircraft crashed at Jones Farm, Heath Road, Banham, near Fersfield, Norfolk, England. P/Os R.J. Cowie, J.P. Ellinson, and two of the crew, not Canadians, were also killed.
