420 Snowy Owl Squadron (Pugnamus Finitum) RAF Tholthorpe. Halifax BIII aircraft NA 190 PT-U was on the outward leg of an operation to Chemnitz, Germany when it crashed near Hazelwood Castle, three miles south of Lissett, England, due to severe airframe icing. The bomb load exploded on impact with the ground, creating a huge crater in the bedrock. There was only one survivor from this aircrew
