Collision with another aircraft. His aircraft crashed into the water and he was drowned. 1917-08-17: Dow died by drowning when he was in a mid-air collision with Avro 504, D-3143,over Long Reach, River Thames near Joyce Green at a height of 2,500 feet.. His aircraft crashed straight into the river and he drowned before rescuers could reach him. His body was recovered. The pilot of the other machine was rescued from the water.
