Ventura aircraft AE 688 took off from RAF Sculthorpe on 18 August 1943 to carry out a night flying training exercise during which the aircraft crashed into a hillside in Wales at Llandwrog. The aircraft was considerably off course at the time but the cause of the crash was unknown. Casualties included Flt. Sgt's. E.J.E. Beaudry and A.S. Clegg (RCAF), Flying Officer L. Fullerton (RCAF), and Flt. Sgt. J.A. Johnston (RAAF).
