45 Group RAF Transport Command Catalina Ib aircraft FP 138 from Darrell's Island, Bermuda. The pilot became disoriented in adverse weather conditions and he was diverting to Plymouth because of poor weather at destination Largs, Scotland. The plane was attacked by German Luftwaffe fighter planes and crashed off the coast near Plouguemeau, Department Finistere, France. Three crew members died, three other crew members survived. Canadian civilian Radio Officer RLG Browne, US civilian First Officer HL Abrin and Flight Engineer Sergeant A Rogers (RAF) were killed. US Civilian Captain EH Stafford, Flying Officer K Thompson RAF and Sergeant HL Covert (RAF)(USA) were taken as Prisoners of War.
