88 (B) Sqn (RAF) Hartford Bridge

15 Bostons of 342 Squadron and 15 Bostons of 88 Squadron, led by Flying Officer Allegret, were dispatched to attack concentrations on the south bank of the RIVER SEINE at ROUEN. 26 aircraft attacked at 18.04/7 hrs from 14,000’/15,000’ with 112x500lbs bombs. Concentrations of bursts in the target area causing columns of black smoke, and a number of fires. Some bombs fell on the opposite bank of the river.

Aircraft of 88 Squadron abandoned task owing to mechanical failure. Intense heavy flak was encountered from the target area and seven aircraft received minor damage. Aircraft “O” of 88 Squadron (F/LT Henderson crashed near Hook on return to base, and all three of the crew were killed.Royal Air Force Operating Record Book
