Flying Incident - Court Martial Hanau Germany 1942-April-01 to 1942-April-01

214 (B) Sqn (RAF) RAF Stradishall

35 Wellingtons and 14 Hampdens to carry out low-level attacks on railway targets, a new experiment which proved to be too costly. 22 aircraft reported that they had carried out this task but 12 Wellingtons - 34·3 per cent of the Wellingtons dispatched - and I Hampden were lost. 57 Squadron, based at Feltwell, a squadron which was often unlucky, lost 5 of the 12 Wellingtons it sent on this raid and 214 Squadron, from Stradishall, lost 7 of its 14 Wellingtons.source: The Bomber Command War Diaries, Martin Middlebrook and Chris Everitt
