1917-05-04: Pinson and his air-gunner Valentine Harold Adams (British) were hit in the fuel tank and forced down under control by engine failure. They were seen to fire a green flare while going down apparently to indicate they were unharmed. On the ground they were surrounded by a large number of Germans and, summarily shot.
