Aircraft shot down by Zero fighter and crashed 400 miles south of Ceylon, 4 April 1942.

Squadron Leader Birchall, the pilot of QL-A spotted and reported the approach toward Ceylon of the Japanese task force which attacked Colombo the next day. He was later known as 'The saviour of Ceylon'.
