Took off from Waterbeach at 17:21 in Wellington Mk Ic (Sqn code: LN-F Bomber Command) on a raid to Berlin.

West of Hanover at 16000 ft the Wellington's engines and surfaces iced up and the aircraft became uncontrollable. At 10000 ft the pilot gave orders to prepare to bail out and at 4000 ft the crew bailed out.

Killed: Sergeant Ronald Joshua Bell RAF first to bail out parachute failed to open. Killed by the fall. Becklingen War Cemetery Ref : 13. E. 5.
