Took off from Dishforth at 20:59 in Whitley Mark V (Sqn code: MH-F Bomber Command).

Shot down and crashed at De Millert, Eind, Holland

Captured by Germans after landing by parachute and was taken to Dulag Luft, then a month later was sent to Stalag Vlllb at Lamsdorf. He changed identities with a New Zealander, and thus managed to get out on a working party and made thre escape attempts. On the last attempt his true identity was discovered and he was sent to Stalag Luft lll at the end of July 1942. From then until December 1942 was engaged in tunnelling activity. In the Autumn of 1944 the whole camp was moved to Fallingbostel, where he worked in liason with French workmwn in order to obtain passports, food and equipment for the use of escapers. On the fith day of March from Stalag 357, he and another P.o.W. left the marching column and after three days in the woods, made contact with Allied Troops
