Took off from Tuddenham at 20:43 in Stirling Mk III (Sqn code: WP-J Bomber Command) on an SOE special operation.

Homebound, and while flying at around 1,000 feet, engaged by light flak from batteries positioned on high ground. W/O Edinborough dived to near ground level, but was repeatedly hit by small calibre rounds and a fire broke out in the bomb bay. Crashed in a ploughed field near Bellancourt (Somme), 6 Km ESE of Abbeville.
