57 Squadron (Corpus Non Animum Muto). Lancaster aircraft was returning in the dark from a raid against the Marshalling Yards at La Chappele, France when it overshot the landing. Flying Officer Young opened up the engines to go around again and hit some houses adjacent to the airfield at Lavender Vale, Wallington, Surrey. Three of the crew, not Canadians, were also killed.
