51 Squadron (Swift And Sure). Halifax aircraft LV 857 was shot down by German Oberleutnant Becker flying an ME-109 night fighter aircraft at Rossbach, Germany during operations against Nuremberg, Germany. Six RAF members of the crew were also killed. There were two 51 Sqd. aircraft lost in the same area on this date. For a list of casualties from both aircraft please see Sergeant A.J. Bradshaw. This was Warrant Officer Wilson's 3rd op. Addendum: Six RAF members of the crew, Sgt.s J.P.G Binder, J. Brear, F. Kasher, B.H. Menary, E.J, Monk, and FS. W.A. Guy were also killed.
