57 Squadron (Corpus Non Animum Muto). Lancaster aircraft NN 701 returned from a daylight trip to Stuttgart, German badly shot up by cannon fire from an enemy fighter aircraft. Pilot Officer West was the only casualty and succumbed to his wounds shortly after the aircraft landed in England.
