226 Squadron (Non Sibi Sed Patriae). Mitchell aircraft FW 183 was providing medium level tactical support over Meuse, Belgium when it took a direct hit from enemy flak. The aircraft was seen to go down out of control but two parachutes were seen to open. Warrant Officer J. Spiegel and Sergeant J.P.O. New (RAF) were also killed. One of the crew, not Canadian, missing presumed killed.
