49 Squadron (Cave Canenri). Lancaster aircraft LM 541 was hit by flak, caught fire and blew up near Le Chesne during a trip to Creil, France. Six RAF members of the crew, Flight Lieutenant G.E. Ball, P/Os G. Millar, J. Kernahan, Sergeants E. Wardman, J.A. Kirwan, and FS G.J.W. Parkinson were also killed.
