635 Squadron (Nos DliCiMUS Ceteri Secunter). Lancaster aircraft PB 453 missing whilst engaged in night operations over Essen, Germany. Six of the crew, not Canadians, missing believed killed.

Hit by Flak of Flakgruppe Essen and exploded over Essen - Borbeck. This is one the three bombers also claimed by Hptm Gustav Tham 3/NJGr 10.(Nachtjagd Combat Archive 1944 Part 5 - Theo Boiten) The crew were initially buried in Essen South West Cemetery. Reinterred 19 May 1947. (CWGC)
