271 Squadron. Dakota III aircraft FZ 667 missing from a night glider towing operation on D-Day. Flying Officer L.C. Flather, Flight Sergeant S. Hope (RAF) and Flight Lieutenant L. Miller (RAF) were killed. Warrant Officer Class 1 W.H. Oakley missing. (H.A. Halliday www.rafcommands.com). A parachute and part of the aircraft were found just off the French shore. . Addendum: - Sgt. I.C. Seager (RAF) was not part of this crew. He was killed on the same date when 512 Sqn Dakota III KG 347 was lost. Flight Sergeant Hope (RAF) and Flight Lieutenant Miller (RAF) are both buried in the War Cemetery at Herrnanville. Detail provided by Joel Huard, Serquigny, France.
