77 Squadron (Esse Potius Quam Videri). The pilot of Whitley V aircraft Z 6975 was landing in bad visibility and struck a house at the end of the runway at RAF Station, Leeming. Flight Sergeant R.J. Lewis, Sgt(s) J.E. Church (RAF), K.C.E. Corke (RAF), and one other RAF member of the crew were also killed. Addendum: The squadron was based at Leeming. Whitley aircraft Z 6975-V was returning from a raid to Boulogne when it crashed. The other RAF member of the crew who was also killed was Sergeant N.S. Smith. Sergeant Smith is buried in Renfrewshire and the other members of the crew are all buried in Leeming in graves G10, G11, G15, and G16. Detail from "Some of the Many" by Roy Walker, Kent, England.
