207 Squadron (Semper Paratus). Lancaster aircraft R 5617 was carrying bombs and struck high ground in mist at Stadon Hill, Tavistock, South Devon. Sergeant C.A. Pankhurst (RAF), one RNZAF member of the crew, and three other members of the crew, not Canadians, were also killed.
