Biggar, Saskatchewan
The crew of Bolingbroke aircraft 10000 were engaged in a gunnery exercise when they crashed four miles south-east of the Village of Quill Lake, Saskatchewan. Sergeants R.C. Chappell (RNZAF), T.J. Sugre (RNZAF), and Leading Aircraftman W.R. Moisley (RNZAF) were also killed. Cpl. Meneilly was injured on August 30, 1941 in a gas explosion in the Airmen's Canteen at 2 Equipment Depot, Calgary, Alberta.

5 BGS (5 Bomb and Gunnery School)
The Bombing and Gunnery School (B&GS) offered instruction in the techniques of bomb aiming and aerial machine gunnery to Air Observers, Bomb Aimers, and Wireless Air Gunners. These schools required large areas to accommodate their bombing and gunnery ranges, and were often located near water. The Avro Anson, Fairey Battle, Bristol Bolingbroke, and Westland Lysander were the standard aircraft used at B&GS schools.
