The crew of Stirling aircraft PJ 911 were on a training flight from Castel Benito, North Africa to their base in the United Kingdom when they struck a mountain thirty-seven miles south-west of Perpignan, France. Flight Lieutenant G. Couldrey (RAF), FSs J.M. Coad (RAF), F.R. Jones (RAF), A.M. Ross (RAF), Flight Lieutenant C. Cooper D.F,M. (RAF), F/Os I.R. Cowan D.F.C. (RAAF), and F.W. Douglas (RAAF) were also killed.
