576 Squadron (Carpe Diem). Lancaster I aircraft LL 799 went down over France during a night operation, an attack against Stuttgart, Germany. Flying Officer R.W. Brown (RAAF), FSs S.A. Smith (RAAF), R. Weekes (RAAF), and Sergeant D.R. Northcote (RAF) were also killed. Two of the crew, not Canadians, missing presumed killed. There were two 576 Sqdn. aircraft lost this same date.
