49 Squadron (Cave Canem). The crew of Lancaster aircraft ED 469 got lost on the trip to Berlin, Germany, due to poor navigation, and was shot down over Hanover, Germany. Six of the crew, not Canadians, missing believed killed. addendum 2: Five RAF members of the crew Sgt.s R.W. Brown, W. Can, J.A. Cross, J.G. Jewell, and A.S. McLaren were also killed.One RAF member of the crew, was seriously wounded and taken to a hospital in Hannover for treatment.
