It is signed by the late Bill Bryant RAF who was the navigator of that aircraft piloted by Bob Boorman RCAF. The caption reads "This Stars Stripes photograph was taken on 14 September 1944 and shows a Mosquito Mk XIII of 409 Squadron RCAF. 218 Gold Coast Squadron (In Time) RAF Downham Market, The crew of Stirling III aircraft BF 572 HA-K sent out a SOS giving their position as over the North Sea off Brugges, Belgium but were shot down by night fighter and lost

FS G Labiuk (RCAF) was killed. Please see Cramm, RH for complete casualty list and flight detail

addendum 2: See page 399. The target was Mulheim, Germany. The bomb load consisted of 11 x 41b. and 12 x 301b. incendiary bombs and the route was from Downham Market, Norfolk - Noordwijk - Bacholt Mulheim. Other crew members were, Sgt. R.H. Cramm, FS. J.B.H. Smith (RAAF), Sgt.s W.H. Davies (RAF), C.R. Minns (RAF), and G.E. Rose (RAF) were also killed. FS. P.W. Farr (RAF) was taken Prisoner of War and held in POW Camp 357. Detail provided by Mrs. R.
