7 Squadron (Per Diem Per Noctum). Stirling aircraft W 7520 was shot down near the aerodrome at St Trond, Belgium. Pilot Officer I.F. Hoidas, FS W.H. Bracken and four RAF members of the crew, P/Os R.A. Bowker, C. Lewis, Sergeant W. Helliwell, and Flight Lieutenant H.G. Pilling D.F.C., were also killed. Flight Sergeant Wireless Operator Air Gunner Kearns was buried at St Trond, exhumed, and reburied in the War Cemetery, Heverlee, Brabant, Belgium.
