156 Sqn (We Light The Way) Pathfinder Force RAF Upwood, Lancaster III aircraft PB 403 ZN-K lost whilst engaged in night operations against Schwandorf, Germany railyards. The Lancaster had a mid-air collision with 171 Sqn Halifax III aircraft LK 874 6K-C and crashed near Morlenbach on the west bank of Kyll river some 12 km SSW of Gerolstein, Germany. Both aircraft and crews were lost. Pilot Officer HW Elliott (RCAF), Flying Officer J Jamieson (RAFVR), Sergeant FJ Cuthill (RAFVR), Flying Officer FW O'Reilly (RAFVR), Pilot Officer FLJ Ponting (RAFVR), FS DE Smith (RAFVR) and Sergeant E Wilson (RAFVR) were killed on PB 403 Please see Brown, RA for casualty list on LK 874
