40 Squadron (Hostem A Coelo Expellere). Wellington aircraft was returning from operations over Dusseldorf, Germany where it had been badly damaged by enemy gun fire. The aircraft was flying in low cloud when it crashed at Alconbury, Huntingdon, England. Sergeant A.F. Hicks was also killed.
