458 Australia Squadron (We Find and Destroy). Wellington aircraft MP 706 was one of 4 aircraft carrying out an offensive shipping search in the Civitaveschia-Elbe-Leghorn area. Wellington MP 706 became overdue for its return to base, and was deemed lost off Leghorn, Italy. Casualties included RCAF Flt. Lt. R.C. Scott (pilot) and Flying Officer M.L. Brechin (2nd pilot); RAFVR Sgt's. W.E. Dixon (wireless air gunner), J. Whittaker (wireless air gunner), and M.E. Windsor (wireless air gunner); and RAFVR Flying Officer J. Hillen (navigator).
